Description
Bruce Guthrie is Professor of General Practice at the University of Edinburgh. He is a health services researcher with an interest in the quality and safety of healthcare, particularly in relation to multimorbidity and prescribing. He chaired the guideline development group for the 2016 NICE Multimorbidity clinical guideline, was a member of the Academy of Medical Sciences Multimorbidity working group, and is a current member of the Scottish Government Polypharmacy Working Group. Like many GPs and specialists, his clinical life is increasingly challenged by caring for complex people with multimorbidity, polypharmacy and frailty who often fit poorly in our health system which is more designed to care for disease in isolation. The lecture will discuss some of the research evidence in this field, and the implications for health services.
